One reason why I love the Santa Cruz Indie Film Meetup is that it prompts me to see movies that I would not necessarily pick myself after they received the majority vote of the group. I'm often pleasantly surprised. Gonzo is a great example. I probably would not have seen it if not for the group, and I ended up enjoying it. It's a lesson in US history as much as a biography, but a very entertaining history lesson. One tidbit of info the movie doesn't share, mentioned by Susan and Wikipedia: Jonny Depp financed Hunter S. Thompson's elaborate funeral. "All I'm doing is trying to make sure his last wish comes true. I just want to send my pal out the way he wants to go out." And he went out in style.Monday, July 14, 2008
Hunter S. Thompson is Gonzo
