Kathleen Flowers Memorial

From Poetry Santa Cruz News, updated 4/23/09:
Kathleen Flowers passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday after a four-year struggle with cancer. She was the winner of the first Annual In Celebration of the Muse Chapbook Award in 2008 for her chapbook Call It Gladness, published by Poetry Santa Cruz. She is greatly beloved in our community. A memorial will be held Sunday May 3 at the Progressive Baptist Church, 517 Center St., Santa Cruz, at 3:30 pm. The service will be from 3:30 to 5:30, followed by an “open mic” to share poems, stories, photos, and finger food. Bring a flower to share with someone and bring finger food if you are so moved.

In lieu of flowers, the family now asks that contributions be made payable to any of three organizations:
• WomenCare, mailed to WomenCare, 1001 41st Avenue, Capitola, CA 95010
• Poetry Santa Cruz, mailed to Poetry Santa Cruz, PO Box 259, Santa Cruz, CA 95061-0259
• DeLaveaga School /Kathleen Flowers Memorial Fund, mailed to DeLaveaga School, 1145 Morrissey Blvd., Santa Cruz, CA 95065

You can read updates, statements from the family and more on the blog www.kathleenflowers.com and read the article by Wallace Baine in the Santa Cruz Sentinel. Poems by Kathleen Flowers will be posted in a downtown Santa Cruz storefront within the next week. Check back here for updates.
